The Hanan Shield and crucial Heartland Championship points were safely locked away after South Canterbury’s 36 – 29 victory over North Otago in Timaru yesterday.

South Canterbury v North Otago
The Heartland Championship rugby game between top of the table South Canterbury and neighbours North Otago featured some outstanding teamwork and tries. The two sides traded tries in the second half, but stout defence kept the “Green & Blacks” ahead at the final whistle, winning 36 – 29, at Alpine Energy Stadium, Timaru.

The Hanan Shield, Phil Gard Cup & Direen Trophy were all at stake yesterday, as  well as vital Heartland Championship points, when South Canterbury rugby hosted North Otago, at Alpine Energy Stadium, Timaru. South Canterbury got off to a good start with early tries, but the “Old Golds” struck back. South Canterbury led 22 – 15 at halftime.
