Members of the local Indian community gathered in Timaru yesterday to celebrate the Hindu Goddess Durga with dancing, prayers and offerings of light and food. A happy colourful occasion.

At the 66th minute (of 70) the South Canterbury Under 18 team were 15-12 down to Mid Canterbury who had the benefit of a strong Nor’wester. But concerted effort and some outstanding running play led to a last minute try and the 17-15 victory. Played at the Ashburton Showgrounds, yesterday.

For much of the second half the South Canterbury rugby Development team clung on to a narrow 22-19 lead in their game against Mid Canterbury in Ashburton yesterday. The replacements came on towards the end of the half and two late tries took South Canterbury out to 36-19 at full-time.

The South Canterbury Rugby Development team met stern opposition in Mid Canterbury at the Ashburton Showgrounds yesterday. A great team effort allowed big prop Viliame Longavatu to shine in open running play. After 43 minutes Mid Canterbury were in front, with the Nor’wester behind them 19-15.

With the Nor’wester behind them Mid Canterbury struck back in the second half of the South Canterbury v Mid Canterbury Heartland rugby fixture in Ashburton. However some outstanding inter-play from the Green & Blacks led to break-outs tries and a final score of 31-16 in favour of South Canterbury.

A big crowd filled the Ashburton Showgrounds grandstand for South Canterbury’s away game against Mid Canterbury. The Green & Blacks had the benefit of the sun and a brisk Nor’wester in the first half, but it took some time against a stout Mid Canterbury defense to get points on the board. Play by play images of the first half and the start of the second, with South Canterbury leading 14-0 at the break.
